Always make certain you look at the entire marriage record. Sometimes a couple does not go through with the marriage–as this 1901 example from Oklahoma shows.

  1. I found the name of my great-great grandmother’s name on the cancelled marriage license of her second marriage. It is the only time her mother’s name is recorded.

  3. I found the intended wife was married to some one else within a year and the license to the original man did not have a marriage return. so I assume they never married especially as the bride to be married some one else shortly after the marriage license was taken out for the first husband.
