{"id":30482,"date":"2025-11-03T12:55:10","date_gmt":"2025-11-03T18:55:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/genealogytipoftheday.com\/?p=30482"},"modified":"2025-11-03T12:57:23","modified_gmt":"2025-11-03T18:57:23","slug":"there-is-no-magic-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/genealogytipoftheday.com\/index.php\/2025\/11\/03\/there-is-no-magic-2\/","title":{"rendered":"There Is No Magic"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It can be tempting to think that if one keeps looking and tries hard enough, that there\u2019s \u201cgot to be\u201d a document somewhere that answers all your questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But most of the time there\u2019s not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To be certain, I\u2019ve found a page of court testimony that outlined the family relationships and military pension affidavits that answered many of my questions. But in most situations, determining the relationships required looking over all the snippets of information I had from a variety of records, analyzing those snippets, and trying to determine what they said in the aggregate. No clue is too small.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There might be that one piece of paper in a courthouse that will answer all your questions, but likely there\u2019s not. Chances are it\u2019s quite a few smaller pieces of paper that need to be analyzed together.
