I have virtually all the photographs they had. What is really interesting is the fact that these photographs are of my great-grandmother’s maternal family, my great-grandfather’s family, and my great-grandparents an their children. There were no pictures from great-grandma’s paternal family at all—and she had aunts and uncles on that side of the family.

There was one picture of my great-grandma and her siblings as children, one picture of her brother, none of her sister, and one of her sister’s daughter. That’s it.

Did the photos of the paternal side of great-grandma’s family pass down to her brother’s family? Did they even have pictures from that side of the family?

One shouldn’t draw conclusions about family dynamics with the absence of pictures of certain branches of the family as, at least in my case, there’s more than possible reasonable explantion.

But still one wonders.

Do you think about how pictures came into your possession?
