There is a difference between registering for the draft, being drafted, and volunteering.<\/p>\n<p>Usually all men between a certain age were required to register when there was a draft registration. Some men were drafted. He did not serve.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>You can search World War Draft Registrations for US residents:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.familysearch.org\/search\/collection\/1968530\">World War I-<\/a>-at\u00a0<em>FamilySearch<\/em> (read the &#8220;learn more&#8221; section if you&#8217;ve never worked with these before).<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.familysearch.org\/search\/collection\/1339071\">World War II&#8211;old men&#8217;s registration for the draft<\/a>&#8211;at\u00a0<em>FamilySearch\u00a0(read the &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.familysearch.org\/wiki\/en\/United_States,_World_War_II_Draft_Registration_Cards_(FamilySearch_Historical_Records)\">learn more&#8221; section if you&#8217;ve never worked with these before<\/a>).\u00a0<\/em>This is incomplete&#8211;you&#8217;ll have to browse.<\/li>\n<li>World War II&#8211;&#8220;young men&#8217;s&#8221; registration (these registrations cover the years 1940 to 1945 and includes information of young men aged 18-44. ). Some of these are on\u00a0<em>FamilySearch <a href=\"https:\/\/www.familysearch.org\/search\/collection\/list\/?page=1&amp;region=UNITED_STATES\">(<\/a><\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.familysearch.org\/search\/collection\/list\/?page=1&amp;region=UNITED_STATES\">visit their &#8220;US&#8221; page and click on your state of interest<\/a>. Currently they only have cards for Louisiana and Maryland (they are called &#8220;first draft registration cards 1940-1945&#8221;). Some of these are at\u00a0<em>Ancestry.com\u00a0<\/em>(as an index \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kqzyfj.com\/click-865524-10470501?url=https%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ancestry.com%2Fsearch%2Fdb.aspx%3Fdbid%3D2238\">U.S. WWII Draft Cards Young Men, 1940-1947<\/a>\u201d) and \u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tkqlhce.com\/click-865524-10934994?url=https:\/\/www.fold3.com\/browse\/251\/hAYLjOSsMScWWGO5q\">Fold3.com<\/a><\/em> as image (with index).
