Blogs and other materials can be helpful, but sometimes it&#8217;s nice just to have a book. I purchased a copy of the new edition of <em>Researcher\u2019s Guide to American Genealogy<\/em>,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are other good books out there, but I only mention ones with which I have actual experience and which I have actually purchased and used. Sometimes just a re-reading of something I&#8217;ve read before gets me to thinking.&nbsp;&nbsp;Sometimes one can get used library editions on Amazon (see links below)&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/rover.ebay.com\/rover\/1\/711-53200-19255-0\/1?icep_ff3=9&amp;pub=5575075447&amp;toolid=10001&amp;campid=5337446131&amp;customid=&amp;icep_uq=genealogy+postcards&amp;icep_sellerId=&amp;icep_ex_kw=&amp;icep_sortBy=12&amp;icep_catId=&amp;icep_minPrice=&amp;icep_maxPrice=&amp;ipn=psmain&amp;icep_vectorid=229466&amp;kwid=902099&amp;mtid=824&amp;kw=lg\" target=\"_self\">Ebay<\/a> or for low-cost\u2013other times not so much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em><a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2hlVZ9H\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">State Census Records<\/a><\/em>\u00a0by Ann S. Lainhart<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em><a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2hNq3HU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Genealogist\u2019s Handbook for New England Research<\/a><\/em>, 5th edition, edited by Michael J. Leclerc<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em><a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2hlZuND\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Land and Property Research<\/a><\/em>\u00a0by E. Wade Hone\u2013a personal favorite of mine\u2013although it is weak on methodology in local records in federal land states.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.genealogical.com\/index.php?main_page=product_info&amp;ref=1783&amp;item_number=2364&amp;affiliate_banner_id=1%22%20target=%22_blank%22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><em>Researcher\u2019s Guide to American Genealogy<\/em>,<\/a>\u00a04th Edition, by Val D. Greenwood<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em><a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2gRGG59\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">The Source<\/a><\/em>, edited by Lou Szucs and Sandra Hargreaves Luebking\u2013probably the best overview of American sources there is.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2gwJ9pD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><em>Digging for Genealogical Treasure in New England Town Records\u00a0<\/em><\/a>by \u00a0Ann S.
