Keeping It
--------------------------------------
This is your reminder that not everything needs to be kept and that it is
perfectly allowable to recycle or get rid of "family history" things.
I don't need to keep every drawing a child made. I don't need to keep every
drawing of mine that my Mother kept. I don't even need to keep drawings
that I make now to illustrate various things.
It's perfectly allowable to not keep it all.
And it's ok to keep things that others think you should get rid of--just
make certain you do not go overboard with it.
I also think it's helpful to organize things somewhat to make it easier for
who goes through your things after you pass and decide that to keep and
what not to keep. I think making it easier for someone after you is a good
idea and makes it less likely it all gets trashed. But if you don't do
that...no skin off my nose. It's your stuff not mine and it's not my
problem because it's not my stuff and I won't be going through it. I've
already done that with my parents, grandparents, and one great-aunt.
There's no one else whose stuff I'll have to go through if they pass.

- Farmers But Not Landowners
--------------------------------------
Presentations on farming ancestors tend to focus on those who owned real
estate. It can be a challenge to research those farmers who rented their
ground, worked as sharecroppers, or those who worked in agriculture as farm
laborers. In this presentation we focus on these types of individuals

Farm renters, sharecroppers, and farm laborers tend to leave fewer
records–we’ll
focus on research strategies directed towards them.

They
can be challenging to research in a way that landowners are not.
