*What is a consultation?*

A consultation is a chance to discuss your specific research problem with a
professional genealogist who can look at your family with a fresh set of
eyes. It can help you get started if you’re new to research, or keep going

as a problem-solving class devoted to your family. We’ll look for
additional clues or leads in the records you’ve already found, discuss the
next steps in your research on your family of interest, and answer your
specific questions about the materials you’ve found.

*Scope*

   - *People:* The problem should focus on one ancestor, a couple, or a
   couple and their children.
   - *Places:* The problem should be US-based, including immigrants to the
   United States.
   - *Time period:* The problem should focus on individuals born before
   1900.

*What to submit*

Send documents about your ancestor electronically, either as an email
attachment or through Dropbox. Your submission should include:

   - No more than fifteen pages of records, plus one additional page of
   questions about those records
   - Both the materials you found and the sources you searched without
   success
   - Your research goal
