This one-hour class will discuss the basics of military service benefit records for those with pre-1865 US military service. This includes pension and bounty land application records. Record organization and structure will be discussed along search methodology, records interpretation, and records access.

Using BLM Tract Books

This class will discuss using the Bureau of Land Management Tract books–helpful when a relative obtained federal land as these items may contain additional pieces of information not contained in the actual patent application file. Those who received federal land, either by cash sale, military warrant, homestead, etc. are included. Also included are those who had incomplete claims. Organization of records and search strategies included.
