When to Start the Fan?
----------------------------

Should you wait to start working on your ancestor’s FAN (Friends,
Associates, and Neighbors) network until you have completed a reasonably
exhaustive search? There’s not a hard and fast answer to the question.

This is where genealogy research is part art.

The end game should be a reasonably exhaustive search. Formulating the
identity of the person of interest should probably be completed before the
FAN network research starts, but that FAN work may provide clues to make
research on the actual person of interest more effective.

Constantly evaluate what’s been located and remember what the actual goal
is.
