If a record or document indicates that two people are siblings and you have no other records or information, remain open to the possibility that the two siblings only share one parent.

That relationship could explain why other records do not make sense or why DNA results are not what you expect.

  1. Interesting question, which I have asked myself more than once. When the siblings have the same last name but the father has married more than once, how do you tell if they are full or half siblings? I have tried doing it by birth/marriage dates but that doesn’t always work; do I assume that there was a death if I don’t have a marriage or date of death? If both females are still alive do I assume a divorce? I don’t see a lot of divorce information on line.
    It can really be confusing.
