The 1880 United States census mortality schedule asks for the family number of the deceased individual. Make certain not to overlook this number in order to determine the household in which they would have been enumerated had they been living.1880mortality

  1. I didn’t even know it existed. Thanks very much. So are there other listings for other years other than 1880? Or was this a one time thing?

    • See my suggestion for Patty, above. I’ve not used the mortality schedules yet, either, but this site gives a brief introduction and important links. I just recently heard about the volunteer group, RAOGK, Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness.

  2. Family number was asked in the 1870 Mortality schedule. One parent died in the fall of 1869, the other in early 1870. I was able to know for sure who the children were by matching up the household number.
