When discussing potential errors in obituaries, genealogists tend to focus on statements of fact regarding relationships, dates of birth or marriage, and other genealogical details. Details about the person’s life and occupational history may be slightly skewed as well and may not bear scrutiny when compared to facts.

Always transcribe obituaries as they are printed, but remember that most of the time, particularly for modern obituaries, newspapers print what they are given.
