If you’ve made a chronology for that ancestor and have a ten year gap in their life where you know absolutely nothing, consider researching it in more detail and consider the possibility that you have overlooked something.

  1. Records will vary from state to state, but tax rolls, educable children lists, state census (taken at times other than the federal), deed records, draft registrations,and newspapers(especially county weeklies) will help fill in the gaps.
