Mom did not always call it “pie crust.” Often there was an expletive in front of the word “pie.” I’m fairly certain the frustration was directed towards the crust and not the pie.
When writing up research notes and stories on individuals whom you remember personally, consider including their favorite swear words. Or, if that’s something you don’t feel comfortable with, at least include those things that frequently made your family member frustrated to the point where they felt like using those words.
For Mom, it was pie crust–and that’s a memory I want to preserve.

Oh my, yes! Just read a blog story of olden days with bits of history, scary memories & much more. BUT I sure see ur point.
My grandmother’s favorite swearword was ‘SUGAR!’ I have never been able to use it to replace my favorite despite how many attempts!
One of our favorite family stories….when my little brother was two or so something irked him and he immediately responded with what he saw as the appropriate thing to say.
Which caused our grandfather to respond with, “Who the hell taught him to swear!?!”
