Newspapers can get a variety of things wrong. Searches should be creative. The woman who died near Golden, Adams County, Illinois, in 1892 was actually Mrs. Ehme M. Aden–not Mrs. Elmer Aden.  And of course this reference to her does not even include her actual first name–which was Reenste. mrs-ehme-aden

  1. An obituary I found didn’t even list her correct maiden or married name or her husband’s name. The son and married daughter were right. So another option is to search for children’s names.

  2. My great-grandma’s obituary lists the names of those who preceded her in death. Problem was it named 2 sisters but they were really her daughters. That would have messed up someone’s tree if they didn’t know it was wrong.
