Some immigrants immigrated more than once. Immigrants went home for a variety of reasons–sometimes for a short trip and sometimes for an extended stay. Don’t assume that the one manifest they are on is the only one.

We found my husband’s great grandfather the second time he came across from Germany but not the first time. Is there a list of them going over? We’d like to know how long he was there. It has a date for when he got his visa but would that be when he went there or came back to US?
Makes sense to suspect that they don’t always come back in the same place either.
My grandfather remembered his family making the trip back and forth nine times!! I only found him twice. His younger brother (12 years younger) remembered five trips… Amazing!
