When information is inconsistent or you are trying to sort out individuals, consider making a chart or table to summarize the information that is conflicting or does not make sense. Sometimes just the process of thinking about how to organize what you have and then organizing it will help you to notice things that you did not notice before.

This is an excellent idea, Michael. I think for me it would be most helpful to have the census records in order by year they were taken but I suppose it depends on what one is trying to determine. Age may be better for some purposes, location for others. Thanks for sharing.
I’m a really big fan of charts when information doesn’t make sense 😉
If you make the chart in excel, you can sort it anyway you want.
