We’re looking forward to 2017!
We’re not really going to make any significant changes to our blog or our focus. We’ll try and keep it short, sweet, and instructive.
I’m hoping to start working on my New England families and write up things on some of my Southern lines–hopefully that will generate some new twists. I’ll continue working on the families that I’ve always worked on–there are always new discoveries to make.

I hope you start with SC. I am having a terrible time trying to find marriage records for my grandmother and her grandfather for my DAR application. I’m beginning to get really discouraged. Any suggestions?

Have heart. DAR does not require marriage records for any generation. Marriage records can be, of course, key to proving the maiden name for females,the link to her parents, and in some cases provide other very useful genealogical information. But maiden names can be proven using other record groups…. probate, land, church, newspapers, etc.
Complete birth and death dates and places are required for your grandparents and the link to the next generation on your line…but not marriage. The link can be proven using one alternate source (or more alternate sources in combination) when a vital record does not exist. Ask the Chapter Registrar you are working with for assistance.
