Don’t assume that the oldest male in a pre-1850 household is the person named as the head of household. In some cases the named head of household may be a younger male or in some cases the oldest female.

Don’t assume.

  1. I thought that only the head of the house was indexed and when you put in their name the family comes up under it . You generally know about the age your person would be so the one in that age range would be the parent.
