Never be satisfied with just one or two obituaries for a person of interest. Obtain as many as you can. There’s always a chance that that “extra” one you find contains a detail not given in the others.
This 1912 obituary for Samuel Neill of West Point, Hancock County, Illinois, provided a county of birth for his wife. It may not be correct, but at least it is a clue. anniebirthplace

  1. I was able to break down a brick wall when the married name of my great grandmother’s surviving sister was mentioned in her obituary. On the other hand, it gave my great grandmother’s birth country as Ireland which birth, census and marriage records have proven to be untrue. However, obits have been a great source for names of siblings and their spouses.

    • I’m not certain how accurate the place of birth for Annie Murphy is in this case. It did make the point about different obits having different information. I’m pretty much stuck on Annie as I have no specific birth information on her and no knowledge of any other family members.
